Sculptra
Sculptra
Sculptra is an FDA approved injectable collagen stimulator used to help revolumize the entire face. Commonly treated areas include the anterior and lateral portions of the cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds, jawline, marionette lines, pre-jowl and chin.
Unlike the gel consistency of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, Sculptra is water based. The active ingredient in Sculptra is Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic biocompatible polymer that induces collagen production. Sculptra can help to reverse facial volume loss by treating shallow – to – deep creases, lines and folds. Although there is a subtle and immediate improvement in volume following treatment, the lasting desired effects build gradually over time. The treated areas appear natural and more youthful with improved skin appearance.
Sculptra FAQ
How long after treatment do you see results?
Results are best seen 6 weeks after treatment. Immediately following treatment you will notice a slight volume improvement however this is mainly swelling due to the nature of the treatment with injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra. This swelling typically resolves several hours to a few days after treatment, and you may look as you did prior to treatment. However, the magic of Scultpra then begins to build back collagen, and you will notice a gradual reduction in fine lines and wrinkles over the next few weeks. You will have a follow up at 3 – 4 weeks to assess need for additional treatments.
How long do results last?
Studies show results can last up to 2 years. After you have completed your treatment regimen as prescribed by your provider, there is typically no maintenance required.
How often are Sculptra treatments given and how many treatments are recommended?
Sculptra is designed as a single treatment regimen of up to 4 sessions at 3 – 4 week intervals. The average number of sessions required to achieve desired results is three.
Is there any downtime with Sculptra treatment?
There is little to no downtime with this treatment. You will massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days following treatment. It is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise, extensive sunlight exposure, UV lamps, and extreme temperatures (such as saunas) within the first 24 hours after treatment. Some swelling and or bruising can be expected as with all injectable treatments, and this can be minimized by applying ice for 10 – 15 minute intervals during the first 48 hours after treatment.
