Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) are platelet concentrates obtained from your own blood. PRP and PRF have incredible healing properties as they contain platelets, growth factors, and cytokines that can be used to support cellular regeneration and collagen production. PRP and PRF can induce remodeling of the extracellular matrix and stimulate the production of dermal fibroblasts and synthesis of collagen- in other words, skin rejuvenation. They can both be used in medical aesthetics to treat acne scars, hair loss, fine lines and wrinkles, sun burns, and sagging skin.
PRF is the second generation of platelet concentrates and is more concentrated as it is spun at a slower rate than PRP. This means it has a higher concentration of these healing factors. Unlike PRP, which uses an anticoagulant in its preparation, PRF is kept natural and has the potential to clot and develop a gel-like consistency. This results in a prolonged release of growth factors and cytokines in areas where it has been injected.
PRF can be injected on its own into acne scars and shadows on the face, or it can be combined with other treatments such as microneedling and microtox.
